When Darryl and I were planning our wedding, we were both in school. I was in my first year of grad school, and he was finishing up his bachelor's degree. He proposed in November, and we decided to get married over Christmas break so we could have a honneymoon. May seemed too far away to be reasonable. We knew it would be a pain for a family to come to a wedding so close to Christmas, and we felt bad about that at the time. We did not, however, foresee the pain it would present to our future selves to celebrate our anniversary. Especially since Eliana's birthday is the next day. We can't really go anywhere fun without disrupting either Christmas, or our child's birthday.
So, we usually go out to dinner for our ACTUAL anniversary, then take a trip (if we're going to) in February or March. This year, my mom and Karen manned the fort and took care of the kids while Darryl and I went to Brianhead for a couple of days. We hadn't been skiing/snowboarding for 6 years or more, so we thought it'd be fun. It was. We had a great time.
